Vitamin B12 deficiency, which contributes to fatigue, anaemia, lethargy and depression, is believed to affect about 40% of the population and may cause permanent nerve damage if not treated in time.
Other ailments linked to low levels of B12 include poor memory, brain “fog”, pins and needles, brittle nails and hair, dizziness, neurological problems, nausea, and decreased appetite. Symptoms may be quickly reversed through supplementation, but prolonged deficiency may lead to nerve damage and, in severe cases, Alzheimer’s and dementia (see here: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000574.htm ).
Vitamin B12 helps the body produce DNA, red blood cells, proteins, hormones and lipids (fats). It is important for a healthy nervous system, brain development and repair, energy production and is found in fish, meat, dairy and eggs (see here: http://www.livescience.com/47398-vitamin-b12-deficiency-supplements.html...).
Studies show that deficiency may be higher than 40% in African populations (see here), particularly in the elderly, while a survey by the Food and Nutrition Bulletin says B12 deficiency should be a global health concern (see here: http://web1.sph.emory.edu/users/hpacho2/FolicAcidNutritionBulletinManusc...).
Early management of B12 deficiency is crucial. Solutions include injections which are invasive, painful and, like B12 tablets, have low absorption levels. UK health pioneers BetterYou’s B12 Boost sublingual sprays have been shown to be far more effective.
Nutritional consultant, Vanessa Ascencao says vegetarians, vegans and pregnant women in particular do not ingest a sufficiently B12-rich diet while stress depletes the body of this vitamin. She says BetterYou’s B12 Boost oral spray provides a daily dose of 1,200 mg. “A sublingual oral spray is as effective, more convenient but far less invasive as sub cutaneous B12 injections,” Ascencao said.
Ground-breaking research by Cardiff University found that oral sprays guaranteed 227% higher absorption than traditional tablets, capsules or drops due to the rich system of veins in the inner cheek and under the tongue which transports the vitamin directly into the bloodstream (see here and here).
