Dr Steve Boyes is the only South African who has been chosen as one of the 21 new TED Fellows to join TED2014 in Vancouver, Canada for a week of collaboration and action!
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design and is an organization devoted to “idea’s worth spreading”. It consists of four days, fifty speakers with an 18 minute time slot. TEDTalks presents its audience with riveting talks by remarkable international people. It’s a community of curious souls and inspired thinkers to engage with ideas and each other and applying that knowledge to understand what our future holds. It brings together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers to give the talk of their lives! Steve Boyes is our South African representative challenging the world to shape a better future.
Steve Boyes, a conservationist biologist, is based in between Cape Town, Hogsback Village and The Okavango Delta. As part of his nine-year research project, Steve, together with his expedition team is aiming to explore an uncover the different stories that characterize the delta in his attempt to achieve World Heritage Status for these vital waterways, so that they may be protected and preserved.
Steve will also soon be seen in the three-part reality series entitled “The Bush Boyes: Across the Okavango”. Produced by Cooked in Africa Films, the series follows Steve and his brother Chris as they embark on the first ever recorded crossing of the Okavango Delta. His mission does not come without risks as they face untamed and unafraid wildlife, completely unaided through this unchartered terrain to raise awareness that this delicate ecosystem is under threat. The need for action is immediate.
