Using his brother as inspiration, Thabo created a project called the Ghetto Youth Movement (GYM), which brings theatrical arts, education and sports to the community. It seemed natural to move onto a career in sports and fitness from there, and he has spent nine years in various public and corporate gyms.
In 2011, Thabo obtained his Personal Training qualification through FITPRO and is now absolutely thrilled to run his very own Adventure Boot Camp franchise in the area he loves and has already invested so much in. Thabo believes that by empowering women mentally and physically, they are more able to shape themselves and their communities and families in a holistic, peaceful way.
"I am so passionate about fitness in general, especially assisting women with weight loss. My passion has always been to work in a township environment since I saw there is a great need to educate and empower its community members about wellness. In the last nine years, I do feel as though I’ve made some sort of impact on the lives of people in Soweto through my programme and by motivating them to get more involved in healthy activities. Fitness is slowly becoming a growing trend in townships. This is definitely a place where I know I can make a difference for a long time to come."
Women often give up on their exercise routine because of a lack of support and motivation, but at Adventure Boot Camp you will get all the support you need. It caters for women only and is a fun and invigorating outdoor exercise programme. No day is the same and ladies get a full body workout in a beautiful environment, enabling them to achieve their fitness and weight loss goals that much easier.
What to expect
Camp takes place for an hour a day, in the morning or early evening, with the option of attending 12 or 20 sessions (three or five days a week) over four weeks. Don’t expect your usual gym workout as exercises include short distance running, skipping, abs and core training, Pilates, circuit training, team work, free weights, mat work, games and hiking. There are camps on almost every doorstep nationwide and each camp is run by highly qualified and passionate fitness trainers like Thabo, year round.
With the support of a trainer, dietician, personal eating plans, as well as a network of like-minded women at camp, the advantages are obvious! Campers also get access to a host of special offers and are able to claim points through the top medical schemes’ wellness programmes.
