This summer Huisgenoot, YOU and Drum presents another first for South Africa. Slide the City is one of the longest commercial waterslides in the world and will arrive in South Africa from the USA to delight thousands around the country as they slip and slide their way through some of our most iconic cities. The 308-m waterslide is the original Slide the City franchise, brought to South Africa exclusively by Huisgenoot, YOU and Drum. With Nedbank as the official sponsor, Slide the City will visit a total of seven cities around the country from December 2015 to February 2016.
City streets will turn into a thrilling ride as participants slide inflatables down the massive waterslide made of slippery, durable vinyl along three blocks at high speed. Food, music and other activities will be available all along the way – there will even be water guns to add to the splashing fun.
“This is the very first time that a slide of this size has been brought to Africa and we’re very excited to be the official and exclusive franchise holder of these events,” says Minette Ferreira, GM of Weekly Magazines at Media 24. “What better way to have fun this summer than sliding through our most wonderful cities! Slide The City has seen massive growth since it started in 2014 and we have no doubt it will do the same here in Africa.”
‘We are delighted to be part of this ground breaking initiative. This is truly a one-of-a-kind experience which is set to rock South Africa in particular, the savvists who always seek to make the things that really matter in their livelihood happen. This initiative affords us an opportunity to bring together families, loved ones and residents from diverse communities into the major cities throughout the summer season,’ said Vanessa Singh: Executive Head – Retail and Business Banking Marketing at Nedbank.
Slide The City supports Nedbank’s accolades of sustainability as the water used during this period will be recycled to the various dams and city parks across the cities. In keeping with its client centered approach, Nedbank will offer a digital experience at the various cities to make it easy for clients to do their banking in a convenient and secure environment.
According to Ferreira, the locations for the slides have already been determined and will be announced along with ticket sales and other information on 1 September this year.
