Ingeli Trail

2014 sees the introdcution of the Ingeli Skymarathon®, a 42km course through the Ingeli Mountain Range with 2100m of vertical gain making it one of the toughest races in KZN of this distance. It is also the first time a sanctioned Skyrunning® event will be held in KZN. The cherry on the top is that the event will be used to select one male and one female runner to represent South African Skyrunning® at the world championships that take place in Chamonix in France in June.

Ingeli Trail will offer three other trails on race day. A 20km forest and mountain run that will also incorporate some steep climbs and technical terrain and two milder options, a 12km and 5km forest trail.

Entries are limited to 200 runners per event and will be done on a first come first serve basis. Late entries will be taken on the day only if there is still space available.

Race Information
The Ingeli Trail is a one day event with four different distances. The main event is the 42km Ingeli Skymarathon® on a course that encompasses some forest, but mainly mountain terrain. All information about this event is available on the Ingeli Skymarathon® page.

The other trail distances and terrain are:
20km Forest and Mountain Challenge (half forest and half mountain) Includes some challenging mountain terrain and requires runners to carry some compulsory ites of equipment (see below)
12km Forest Trail (indigenous and plantations) Well balanced trail
5km Forest Trail (indigenous and plantations) For beginners, walkers and kids.

All of the events have some steep and technical trail aspects to them

Registration & Race Briefing:

Registration is from Friday (4 April) afternoon from 3pm at Ingeli Forest Lodge.

A race briefing will take place on Friday at 7pm At Ingeli Forest Lodge.

Late registration and a second race briefing will take place at 5.30am on Saturday 5 April before the race starts. Registration for the other courses will take place 45mins before each start.

Race Description:
The Ingeli Skymarathon® challenging by nature and should only be attempted by fit runners with some experience on steep terrain. The terrain varies enormously from gravel road to open rocky terrain.
The 20km event follows the same route as the main event for 12kms before splitting off and returning to the finish at the lodge.
The 12km and 5km forest trail events do not venture onto Ingeli Mountain, but still involve a few steep climbs and descents through the forested area. They have been designed for those looking for something shorter. The 5km is suited to beginner trail runners . Walkers are welcome to run either of the Forest Trail routes.
