Central Drakensberg
Descent: 9 – 11 October 2015
Great Trek: 13 – 15 October 2015
Two Day: 17 – 18 October 2015
The tenth annual Berg and Bush event boasts some of the world’s best mountain biking as riders plunge off the Drakensberg escarpment and descend into the valleys and bushveld of KwaZulu-Natal.
Picturesque Em’seni Camp on the banks of the Tugela River is the race village for the event, which was rated as the best MTB race in South Africa in 2009.
The line-up comprises three races – two three-day options called the Descent and Great Trek, and the original Two-Day option.
With more than 2 500 participants across three races, this is an event not to be missed.
The event starts with the Descent, which is the main prize money event for all those competitive riders and racing snakes. This is followed by the Great Trek, which offers riding in a less crowded environment for the adventurous soul who is not in a hurry. Lastly, the Berg and Bush event wraps up with the Two-Day, which is a more manageable ride for family and friends. This feature is sociable and relaxed and is reccomended for first-time multi-stage riders, but is just as “proper” as the other two events.
