Following a highly successful first race in the 2014 HERO CHALLENGE series, we are excited to announce the upcoming race dates brought to you by Lights by Linea in association with Kia Diepriver, TREK Bicycles, Craft Clothing and ecentric Payment Systems.
15 February 2014: Polkadraai Circuit, Stellenbosch
22 February 2014: Stellenbosch Aerodrome, Stellenbosch
2 March 2014: Polkadraai Circuit, Stellenbosch
Criterium racing style, fitness requirements, and tactics are very different than what’s required in road racing. They’re shorter, faster, more technical and often a lot more fun. The Lights By Linea HERO CHALLENGE 2014 series offers high intensity and action filled racing that will be exciting for both the participants and spectators alike. A challenge for all categories of road cycling enthusiasts.
Registration for the event held on 15 February will be at the Polkadraai Farmstall and opens at 12:00pm and will be closed to entrants 30 minutes prior to their category. Timing chips available at the Registration as per the League Timing chip - About2time.
The format will be as follows:
Cat 3 – start at 14:00 race for 40 minutes and 1 lap: Youth (U12, U14, u16)
Cat 2 – start at 15:00 race for 60 minutes and 1 lap : Vets, Masters and Women
Cat 1 – start at 16:15 race for 90 minutes and 1 lap: Elite Men

Come and enjoy a picnic on the lawn at the Polkadraai farmstall, pick some strawberries and catch the most spectator friendly road racing event on the South African road calendar. All the top South African and local athletes racing their heart out to become the HERO!
Top local DJ Adam Spence will be sure to keep the crowds entertained throughout the day!
These events are CSA Sanctioned and will operate under the rules of the UCI.
This series will be followed by a series of long distance one-day races, forming a winter series, with another group of criterium events in the spring of 2014.
