Sporting a new format and venue, the country’s oldest wine festival will take place over three days.
Visitors to the Stellenbosch Wine Festival presented by Pick n Pay will experience the very best of what Stellenbosch has to offer: great wines, gourmet food, breathtakingly beautiful nature and performances by some of South Africa’s most popular musicians.
Festival Features
The Stellenbosch Wine Festival presented by Pick n Pay will be for the first time held at the Coetzenburg Sport Grounds, Coetzenburg Road in Stellenbosch. The beautiful venue will serve to provide an interactive experience for festival goes by bringing the best of Stellenbosch under one roof, and an innovative family friendly, relaxed and entertaining outdoor environment.
Stellenbosch Wine Route
With more than 148 wineries making up the Stellenbosch Wine Route, the festival brings one of the largest wine varietal tasting offerings in the world in one venue. Visitors can taste over 200 different wines in one day as they walking through the virtual wine route and experience each wine region’s rich culture and history, through a sensory journey with a difference. Feel the different soil types and vine varieties that grow in each region, and taste the difference between grapes grown from one area to another.
Gourmet Lane
Stellenbosch is home to some of the top restaurants in the country, most being situated on wine farms. The Gourmet Lane brings these top restaurants to share the story behind each culinary creation, whilst sipping on the wine which fuelled their creation. These restaurants will have food & wine pairings set at the festival to give festival goers a chance to experience the world- class culinary quality Stellenbosch boasts. Each restaurant will produce, on-site, their signature dish paired with a wine from the farm. These signature dishes will be on sale to festival goers throughout the 3 day festival period.
Food & Wine Pairing
Choose from 1 of 4 selected wineries and enjoy a canapé and wine paring experience hosted by the renowned Stellenbosch Winemakers themselves. Select from 4 daily sessions, each showcasing 1 wine farm offering 3 wines to taste and pair with a specially designed tasting menu unique to each farm. Learn which type of foods pair best with which type of wines. These will be 30 minute sessions presented by the winemaker and Chefs.

Grape Stomping Ground
The Grape Stomping Ground will form the heart of the festival, where everyone will gather to celebrate all that is wine with exciting fun activities for everyone. With live entertainment, grape stomping, bottle opening and barrel rolling competitions, these are just a few of the many subsidiary vines leading to this main root.
Momentum Health Kiddies Area
This area gives the kids a chance to experience the authentic outdoors of Stellenbosch. Kids can expect a Klouter Kabouter playground with a mini jumping castle, face painting, foam & water slides, a creative corner with colouring books and crayons. To ensure the kids are in safe hands we provide 6 caretakers per day who are qualified nursery teachers. The Momentum Health Kiddies Area provides these exciting activities for the kids to allow parents to enjoy the finer elements of the festival.
Live Music
The introduction of musical talent from different genres is just a natural growth of our commitment to inviting acclaimed vocalists and musicians to participate in our event. Creating memorable music experiences has always been one of the keys to what makes Stellenbosch Wine Festival so special. With live performances from some of South Africa’s prominent artists, there isn’t a better way to spend this summer weekend than with us. It is a wonderful setting to enjoy good music, with good friends, and a glass of wine accompanied by good food.
Pick n Pay Wine Shop
With every wine varietal available for tasting at the venue, the Pick n Pay Wine Shop provides the opportunity to purchase any of the wines offered for tasting at the venue. Visitors have the option to purchase wine for on-site consumption or for taking home to be consumed at a later stage. A wine courier service will be available should one wish to have their purchase delivered to a destination of their choice.
Barrel Room
The Barrel room offers open-sided enclosures located in the heart of the festival to provide a unique & extra-sensory experience that caters for groups wanting personalized hospitality. This offering gets you the overall festival experience without the hustle and bustle of the large crowds. Just for a little bit extra, guests will have VIP parking, a cocktail lounge with private bar, canapés, and waiters will be offered for this area.
