All nations welcome… Teams from South Africa, Australia, Seychelles, Reunion and France are expected for this unique world first event, where fun is number one!

Indian Ocean Windsurfing Championship

10 days waiting period - 4 days racing in a long distance speed crossing, downwind and figure-8 slalom. Each race the 5 top results from each country will count towards the final result.

The racing wind range is from 12 to 30 knots. Equipment is limited to 2 boards/3 sails. They recommend 2 sails as good enough and most Mauritians have only 2 sails and 1 board of 110 litres. 8sq.m is the most common sail size for Pointe d'Esny one size smaller for le Morne.

Preliminary Event Program:

· Saturday 3 August: Malibu Classic – Figure-8 Slalom at le Morne, followed beach party, bbq and Malibu cocktails. Bus will leave there around 10pm.
· Saturday 10 August: Pointe d'Esny - 40km Island to Island Crossing from Ile aux Aigrettes to Ile aux Cerf and back, followed by Phoenix beer party at le Preskil.
· The last two days races will be scheduled during the week in the top conditions the island has to offer.

The event will be based as le Preskil Hotel in Pointe d'Esny. During the contest, all participants will be allowed to leave their equipment at the hotel, even if they are not staying there. A secured zone will be available for riders to store their equipment rigged.

Hotel and flight packages for le Preskil are available from the event travel agent, Exclusive Island Travel. Contact them at for more info.

There are also many great self-catering guesthouses in the area - see http://www.mauritiusguesthouse.com/contact.html. Expect to spend about 160€/day on a 4-bedroom guesthouse.

The Yacht Club will also be open to all competitors during the week and will have access to the beach & facilities.

It’s important to note that airline baggage rules for SAA and Air Mauritius have changed in the last year. It is significantly more expensive to fly your board over. As sponsor of the event, Air Mauritius has agreed to lift the fee on the following conditions;
• The first board bag is free, but in exchange for your normal luggage bag
• The second board bag is 40€
• The board bags must not weigh more than 23kg

Hand luggage is considered separate and standard rules apply: http://www.airmauritius.com/handbaggage.htm
