Bernard Rukadza ran into the Trail Series history books on Saturday, 18 August 2012 at the Cape Winter Trail Series final race at Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, Kleinmond, by becoming the first runner to secure a hat trick of Cape Winter Trail Series Championships. A slender seven second lead over Riaan Wildskut in the 13.8km race four of this year’s Championship ensured not only a hat trick of race wins in 2012, but his third Cape Winter Trail Series Championship title in as many years. This makes Rukadza the most successful Trail Series athlete in the five year history of these events.

It was a colourful scene on Sunday, with brightly coloured, mismatched, hooped long socks proving to be the fashion statement of choice, and while the sun shone the wind became progressively stronger, which made the biking component of the events pretty testing.
It was also somewhat ironic, given the way the wind whipped things up, that two of those events went by the name “the...
Trail runner Andre Calitz is blitzing the local trail running scene as he wins – and sets new records – on challenging courses.
Last year, 29-year old Calitz - known as ‘AJ’ in trail running circles - won the Three Peaks Challenge, taking 16 minutes off the previous record. He has triumphed at numerous local runs including the Muizenberg Trail where he set the course record.
This year he ascended Table Mountain’s Platteklip Gorge a record 11 times between sunrise and sunset to win the K-Way Platteklip Charity Challenge. His most-recent win comes at the two-day Grootvadersbosch Trail Run, where he set new records on both days, and firmly establishes Calitz as a fast, record-setting trail runner to watch.
Although Calitz is a relative newcomer to trail running, his...
