Williamson takes on world stars at European mountain bike championships

Team bizhub-FCF’s Catherine Williamson will race in the European Marathon Mountain Bike Championships in the Czech Republic this weekend. The 95km race is in the mountains to the North of the country in Malevil, near Liberec.

Catherine made a successful transition to MTB racing two years ago and is currently one of the most versatile ladies racing. She has represented Great Britain at both the Olympics and on several occasions at the Elite world road race championships. She has yet to test her abilities on the European mountain bike circuit. Following her recent successes in both the Joberg2C and Sani2C stage races, this is all set to change.

“I’m really keen to test myself against the world’s best Marathon riders and the European Championships offer’s the ideal opportunity for this. The race is also ideal preperation for the National road championships the following week as a ‘last blast’ and then for Trans Alps in which I will race with Ischen Stopforth in July” commented Catherine.

Though nervous about how technical the race could be, Catherine is excited as there is no pressure and she is somewhat of a ‘darkhorse’ which could well work in her favour on the day.

"I haven’t done any technical riding since Sani2c in May as the trails in the UK are so muddy still so I’ve done all my training on the road for the Nationals. I only saw the race advertised a few weeks ago and with the support of bizhub-FCF I thought it a good opportunity to see what racing is like in Europe and see how it compares to the standard of marathon racing back in South Africa."
