The Road to Dakar
I was anxious when I opened the much-anticipated email from the organisers. Congratulations Mr. D. Curtis, your entry for the 2012 Dakar has been accepted. My dream of taking part in the biggest off-road race in the world was to become a reality. I was on the road to the famed Dakar Rally.

In August 2011, the Waveski World Championship was part of a massive and successful celebration of wave sports; the Ocean Spirit Festival, held in Santa Cruz, Portugal.

The inFOCUS and I Know the Place competitions are now closed for Issue 14 and the winners will be announced on the website soon. The competitions will be back in issue 15, so keep on snapping those photos and keep your eyes peeled for our next issue that will be out in early February. Dakar Rally 2012
Congratulations to Giniel de Villiers, Darryl Curtis and Greg Raaf from South Africa and Chris Birch from New Zealand for finishing the 2012 Dakar Rally! Darryl Curtis came 22nd overall, Giniel de Villiers was 3rd in the car division and Greg Raaf 83rd overall in the bikes.

Hainan Wanning Riyue Bay International Surfing Festival Presented by Quiksilver
In a Tense, Tightly Contested Final, Glenn Hall Wins the Inaugural Hainan Classic at Riyue Bay. South Africa's Royden Bryson Starts the Year With a Second-Place Finish. Despite smaller conditions on the final day of the competition at the Hainan Classic, the Final was an action-packed, wave-for-wave affair. Glenn 'Micro' Hall managed to take control early with a long, excellent-scoring wave mid-way through the heat and hold off Royden Bryson (ZAF) in order to be crowned the first-ever champion of the Hainan Classic, an ASP 4-Star Men's World Tour event.
